Ideal for filling that void between an infant seat and a
booster, the ComfortSpot accommodates babies up to 30 pounds in the rear-facing
position and holds 20- to 40-pound toddlers facing forward. This car seat is a
great choice for bigger-than-average babies that are still under 1 year old but
heavier than the 20-pound weight limit of most infant seats. Like a favorite
easy chair, the ComfortSport has a deep shell and plush side wings that children
can snuggle into and a cozy head pillow for napping. Hidden beneath these
comfort features is a foam liner made of Expanded PolyStyrene (EPS), which, in
the event of a crash, absorbs all the energy from the impact rather than passing
it on to your precious child. Other safety measures include a 5-point harness
with a chest clip, adjustable straps, and the LATCH tethering system. A cup
holder and snack tray keep baby busy and happy during longer rides and the seat
pad conveniently removes for washing without requiring Mom or Dad to take apart
all the straps. It has been picked as Baby Talk magazine’s "Editor’s
Choice" among convertible car seats for two years in a row (2003 and 2004).

From the Manufacturer
When it comes to convenience, style and value in a
convertible car seat the Graco ComfortSport in Bevington is a real winner. Like
all Graco convertible car seats, the ComfortSport convertible car seat, with a
5-point harness, is the perfect transition car seat for when your little one has
outgrown their Graco SnugRide infant car seat, but should still be riding
rear-facing - the American Academy of Pediatricians recommends keeping your
child rear-facing as long as comfortably possible - at.

Good car seat for the price,
October 15, 2004
We recently bought this car seat for our 7-month-old who just grew too long
for his infant car seat. For the price, we've been very happy with it. Our son
loves this car seat and it seems to be good quality. The only things I didn't
like are (1) it took us quite a while to figure out how to install it properly
and (2) if your seat backs are in more of an upright position then it is nearly
impossible to reach the strap control when installed according to instructions.
However, we figured out that if you cut a pool noodle into 2 pieces about 6
inches long and position them on each side of the strap adjustment, between the
car seat and the seat back it works well to leave you enough room to get your
hand down there.
Overall, I am not sorry I didn't spend more money on a more expensive car seat.

ComfortSport was a Good Choice
for us Rear Facing, July 13, 2005
We really enjoy our new Graco ComfortSport car seat. Our son is 7 months old
and has been using the seat in the rear facing position for about 1 month now.
We loved his infant carrier, but he grew over the maximum length specified for
the seat (26"), so we knew we needed to move up to a convertible car seat and
that we would have it in the rear facing position for 6 months.
We tried some other seats, but we had problems getting them to fit in our small
cars in the center middle seat while rear facing (see my other reviews for
details). We also tried the Evenflo Titan which is in the same price range as
the Graco ComfortSport. It did fit in our cars, but we had some problems with
the straps (see the review under Titan for details.) We had NO PROBLEMS getting
the Graco ComfortSport to fit in the center back seat rear facing in both a 2000
Honda Accord and 2000 Saturn SL2 with the driver and passenger front seats
adjusted far enough back to fit my 5'-11" husband comfortably. Because our cars
aren't LATCH equipped, we installed the seat using the center position seatbelts
and didn't have a problem.
In all fairness, we did not try the Evenflo Triumph or any of the Britax seats
that many people wrote good reviews for, they were outside of our budget.
However, as with many other car seats, to get the angle correct in the rear
facing position you probably will have to put rolled up towels under the front
of the car seat (which is explained in the car seat manual.) The nice thing with
the ComfortSport seat is that it has a built in level with rolling ball so that
you can verify that you have it at the correct angle rear facing. The other
seats we tried first just had a straight line that you had to eyeball or put a
carpenter's level on. Having the built in level was a nice feature.
Other reviewers felt that the ComfortSport had too much padding and therefore
may not fit all babies. We had no problems getting our son in the seat and we
liked the padded surface. You cannot put it in the top shoulder strap slot in
rear facing position, but our son is tall and still appears to have room to grow
"up and out" in the middle position. My husband and I feel that the padding
isn't too thick and the straps seem to have many adjustment settings. We do not
think that most people will have problems getting their babies in this seat.
The only negatives we have encountered are that the seat is larger than the
infant seat and does take up more room in your back seat. This may be a concern
for others with small cars. However, the ComfortSport is no larger than other
convertible car seats. You will have this problem with all of them. Another
negative was the strap adjustments are significantly different in the
convertible car seats versus the infant carriers (even if you are buying the
same brand.) It took my husband and I several tries before we fully understood
how to tighten and loosen the straps. You really need to study the car seat
manual.
When the car seat is at the correct angle with towels underneath it, you can
access the front tightening strap and lever to loosen the strap. If you can't
reach it (like some other reviewers have stated), then you need to check your
angle. Also, when tightening the front strap, it helps to take your other hand
and pull on the same strap behind the seat. We think when the seat is rear
facing, with the towels underneath the seat, at times the towel rubs against the
strap making it harder to pull. By putting slack in the strap by pulling on it
from the back, you make it easier to pull.
In the May 2005 issue of Consumer Reports Magazine the Graco ComfortSport was
only rated 7th out of 9 seats reviewed. That was one reason we did not start out
with the ComfortSport in the first place. But the overall score still was in the
"Very Good" range and we feel it is a good economical choice for people with
cars who need to use the seat in rear facing position.
The reason we gave this seat 4 stars instead of 5 is because in this price range
ALL of the seats we tried have challenges putting them in the rear facing
position. There definitely could be design improvements.
I also want to add that for a small infant (birth to 6 months) an infant seat is
going to be a better choice. All infant seats have a more relaxing angle for the
baby, are easier for you to use, and are more convenient. I would not start out
with the ComfortSport or any other convertible seat. But when you have to move
up, consider the ComfortSport.

Great seat., January 17,
2006
I purchased this chair for my 6 month old, she had grown out of the infant
seat. This seat was very east to install in the car, and the straps are easy to
adjust. she seems very comfortable in this. the price was right and the family
is happy.

Seat belt straps more
difficult than carrier, January 14, 2006
We bought this car seat without doing as rigorous of an "in-store test" as we
did with the infant seat. I guess we went in with the assumption that because it
was a Graco, too, the seat belt mechanism would be the same. It looks the same.
First, the seat belt shoulder straps are one big loop, and it is not connected
underneath the seat. So there are many times when you take the baby out of the
seat, the strap gets pulled to one side or the other, and you don't realize it
until you put her back in, and one shoulder strap gets very tight and the other
is loose. And of course, you can't fix it with the baby in the seat, so we have
to take her out, move the straps around, and try again. I will admit, this is
easier and seems to be less likely to happen when she is not bundled up, but it
is January in Indiana, so obviously going to be awhile before that happens.
Second, the strap to tighten the seat belt runs under the lever you lift to
loosen it. This is a problem twice: First, when you tighten the belt, if the
strap is not aligned properly, the latch comes down on the strap and won't hold;
and second, when you try to loosen the belt, it has to be lined up in the middle
or it gets stuck.
As for the rest of the seat, I have no complaints. It is nicely padded, and she
seems comfortable. I do feel that once everything is done properly, it is very
safe.
If your child is like mine and HATES the process of being strapped into the
seat, I highly recommend you look elsewhere, because at times, that is a lot of
work. I am very disappointed with Graco with this seat, I feel it is not very
user friendly (although I am getting used to it).

disappointed, January 5,
2006
I am a mother of 10 month old twins. We owned two of the Graco Snugride
infant carseats and were very happy with them. I was excited to try the next
stage. We had no problem installing the seats, however, we found it impossible
to reach the harness adjustment strap as a rear facing seat.Your hand will not
fit between the seat and the carseat. This was very frustrating in the winter
with their puffy coats (especially when you have to do it for two kids). I think
this seat will be fine as a forward facing seat, but I am already so frustrated
that I wouldn't recommend it.

Hated this seat!, January
3, 2006
My 5 month old has reached the height limit on her SnugRide and I wanted to
stick with a Graco product so I purchased two of these seats last week. The
seats are being returned this week. We could not get the LATCH to tighten and
installing it rear facing makes it impossible to adjust the straps. I called
Graco to complain about the LATCH system not tightening and they said I should
take it somewhere and have it installed for me. Forget it, my daughters safety
is more important to me than the Graco name. I wish I had done my research
sooner, I'm buying an Evenflo Triumph!
